Amazon.com Review
This glass tea mug turns the act of brewing tea into an artistic presentation. Loose tea leaves are placed into the glass infuser, hot water is added, and when the water reaches the desired color or strength, the infuser is lifted out along with all the loose leaves. With its wide loop handle, the mug can be picked up and carried without fingers touching the hot glass. Tea flowers look beautiful in the mug, too, and work best without the infuser. Made of lightweight yet laboratory-strength borosilicate glass that won't stain, the mug may be used on the stovetop or in the microwave, and both the mug and infuser are dishwasher-safe.

For the tea drinker, Primula also sells a glass teapot and packets of tea flowers, which are AA-grade green tea leaves and actual dried flowers that are hand-sewn into tight balls by artisans in China. After a tea flower ball is place in hot water, it will slowly sink to the bottom and unfurl into full "bloom." Some even have two different kinds of flowers that unfurl into a colorful spectacle and add flavor to the tea. --Ann Bieri

5 out of 5 stars Lovely!   January 10, 2009

I absolutely love the single-serving tea cup and infuser, and have thoroughly enjoyed discovering flowering teas by using it.

Having read the rest of the reviews, I'm mystified as to the problems with the infuser. Perhaps several folk got substandard ones but mine is solid and flawless even after several weeks of daily use and running through the dishwasher.

I purchased it at Linens and Things going out of business sale (got the last intact one, in fact) and have been simply thrilled with it.

Sorry it's unavailable or I'd get a couple more as gifts.

2 out of 5 stars Tea Strainer cut by saw. Cracked.   January 5, 2009

I wanted a non-metal, non-plastic tea strainer. This set was a nice idea. Unfortunately the slits at bottom of the glass strainer that let water flow in/out seemed to be cut by some kind of small saw after the glass is hardened, rather than formed in the glass making process. So the edges of the strainer slits look rough. One wonders if tiny glass particles/dust will break off into your tea over time. I didn't need to wonder long as large cracks developed between some of the slits after several weeks of use. The strainer is now useless.

The glass mug/lid are nice. Very lite. Not worth
the full price of the set though.

4 out of 5 stars Tea Time!   August 16, 2008

The Primula tea maker mug resembles a mason jar and it's quite charming. The glass is fine and thin so it feels very fragile; if you're washing by hand, make sure you handle it gently as it can easily break. However fragile it may feel, the mug and all its parts are dishwasher safe as well as microwaveable.

Just as the directions indicate, you put your favorite loose tea into the infuser and you let it rest on the lip of the glass mug while you pour hot water into both infuser and mug. Invert the lid and now it acts as a coaster for the infuser. Everything is artfully designed, fits in well and looks simple and beautiful.

One little caveat: I notice that once you lift the infuser out of the cup and place it on the coaster, you have to be very careful as the infuser gets hot quickly and you can burn yourself. I'm not sure if later designs can incorporate some rubber band around the outside edge to prevent this minor annoyance, but it could only help.

Also, once you lift the infuser out of the mug, you can't put it back in for more infusing. The water level rises immediately and it spills over out of the mug, making a bit of a mess. Just make sure you steep the tea for the proper amount of time before you're ready to remove the infuser.

On another final note, don't pay $14.95 as Amazon advertises. Linens-N-Things sells this for just $9.99. Other than these few quibbles, I love this design and I love this mug.

5 out of 5 stars Best taste, need a toothbrush to clean, looks okay   May 19, 2008
Busy in Boston (Boston, MA)
I didn't think I would notice a taste difference using this diffuser versus a metal one, but I certainly did. This was SO much smoother. I loved it. Little bits of tea can get stuck in the diffuser, but a toothbrush gets them out. The design of the glass/handle isn't the best, but it's worth it to get the glass diffuser. I also found this at a common brick and mortar store for 2/3 the price here. With their 20% off coupon it was a steal.

4 out of 5 stars Works well...could be better looking   February 7, 2008

This item appears similar to the Bodum product that had received negative reviews here on Amazon. After reading those reviews, I decided to buy Primula's version since I was able to find it at a brick and mortar store and had a discount coupon for that store. Also, I wanted to see if it has the same problems as the Bodum version. After weeks of use, this tea mug still works fine, but the slitted part of the infuser has started to stain. I had expected this since the surface of the slits aren't smooth like the rest of the cup. The manufacturer can't really do anything about that since it's extremely difficult to shape small slits like that in glass. It's quite sturdy, though. I dropped the mug and the infuser (short distance falls) on separate occasions there is no visible damage. Tea still sticks to the smooth surface of the glass though, so I recommend cleaning it daily. I found it very enlightening to see a white paper towel turn brown after wiping the transparent glass after a day of use. Just think of what tea and coffee can do to your teeth if you don't brush thoroughly each day. Final note is that the overall look isn't too attractive. I think it's due to the somewhat thin looking handle. I would prefer it if the proportions is more like that of a ceramic mug. Oh, speaking of the shape, it doesn't fit in my car cup holder so it makes it a little more cumbersome to bring it to/from work.
