The Very Finest September 2, 2010 A. Skinner (Connecticut, USA) Normal fish oil pills contain 18% EPA and 12% DHA. DHA is the important part. So I did a DHA per dollar analysis of a lot of different fish oil pills, and the best one had a 719 DHA/$ ratio (though this didn't have your standard 18/12 split; it has a 12/28 EPA/DHA split). However, when I started entertaining the idea of a liquid fish oil, I was very surprised to see a 2159 DHA/$ ratio. Like 3x more efficiency. That's huge, obviously. For comparison, the best performing 18/12 pill on Amazon only has a 302 DHA/$ ratio. The fish oil is 7 times more efficient/cheaper than the pills. To put it in perspective, to get the same amount of DHA as I get in this product from a standard 18/12 pill, I would need to spend about $160.
When this fish oil arrived, I was kind of expecting it to be a little nasty, but it wasn't at all. It had a kind of pleasant, subdued lemon scent. I had some strait and it was fine (if a little oily =p), and then added some to a blended drink psyllium fiber drink this morning. While I imagine it bound the drink together a little better, it also yielded a mild lemon flavor to it I found pleasing. I think it may even be good incorporated into a salad dressing.
If you're open to the idea of a liquid fish oil, I think this one is great. It's a very cost effective means to get your daily DHA.
Too Bad this can't be subscribe and save. August 30, 2010 Daniel B. Halstead After dropping over $40 at a local health food store on a whim I checked here and found that it was as inexpensive as it is. My family uses it twice a day and can tell the difference in the way they feel. Just can't keep it in stock. This is a prime candidate for subscribe and save.
No A&D vitamin?! August 29, 2010 Paul (GA) I received the 500ml bottle with slightly different cap than one showed on the picture and "surprise" - the manufacturer for a reason beyond my understanding has removed both A and D vitamins from the oil!!
I got this oil for the sole reason to get vitamin D in its natural form - and now what? Why would they do that?? BTW the oil tastes different now more like artificial one.
good for hair August 19, 2010 chrissie In my pursuit, as a woman, to find the right combination of products to promote hair growth, I discovered that taking enough of a good quality fish oil supplement actually works! I tried other brands and they just didn't work!
Please understand that fish oil does not "make" your hair grow, but supplies enough nutrients so that you can regrow lost hair. With me, I feel that my nutritional status has decreased over the years causing my hair to thin. My diet is very good, but age still is a factor in my ability to utilize the food I eat.
This supplement helps to fill in any inadequacy.
Good luck!
WARNING! Do the math! August 17, 2010 JD (Texas) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I don't know who provided the breakdown of the cost per ounce for this item, but all prices per ounce are way off the mark on all the bottle sizes. For example, the description for the 16.9 oz bottle shows "Price: $26.04 ($0.79 / oz" when the actual price per ounce is almost twice that: $1.54 ounce. I hate being flim flammed.
