Newer model but one less feature July 9, 2010 HKSac (sacramento, ca, usa) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Beware buyers of the newer version of the HJ-112 pedometer. It lacks one important feature the older version of the same model had: the ability to reset to zero the counter. If you do multiple workouts during a day, this feature is handy so you can measure each workout separately. The old model had four buttton on the face, including a reset button. The new version has only three buttons, with the reset replaced by a set button which when pressed resets all stored information like time, stride, etc. You cannot do a temporary reset to zero. So if you walk twice a day, you cannot measure two separate workouts. You get a total for the entire day and only at midnight, the pedometer resets to zero.Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer
Only after calling Omron's customer service did I find out the new HJ-112 pedometer has an "N" designation, i.e., HJ=112N. Amazon's listing does not show this. I am disappointed that a very useful feature was eliminated.
Great product! July 7, 2010 Kim Detwiler This is a great product. Easy to use and seems to be very accurate and durable.
Not Happy July 7, 2010 G. Long (Mesquite, NV) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have not been able to use yet, because it does not come with a battery.......To bad they didn't think a head..
Survived a trip through the washer!!! July 6, 2010 J. Hymas (Alanson MI) I just have to share this! I loved this pedometer and was using it every day and found that it did help me to increase my steps per day. Then I left it in the pocket of my jeans and washed it!! It fell out before I loaded the clothes in the dryer. Fortunately, I have an eyeglass screwdriver, which you WILL need to change the battery. I took out the battery, unscrewed the three other tiny screws, and took the whole thing apart. I put it on the top of a bookcase to dry, with the four tiny screws in the lid from a vitamin bottle. Then, because I didn't really BELIEVE that it was savable, I left it there for more than a month. Then, about to toss it in the trash, I decided to put it back together, which was easy, since it is so well designed. I haven't set all the functions yet, because I have forgotten how, but it is counting steps justs fine, with the same battery! I love this thing and plan to check my pockets before washing every time. . .
Great pedometer July 6, 2010 Sally Stenger (Atlanta, Georgia) I originally began wearing a pedometer during the McDonald's Happy Meal promotion that came with a pedometer a couple of years ago. I bought this one as an "upgrade" after seeing it recommended in Consumer Reports. The big advantage to this one is that I can put it in my fanny pack which is good since I don't usually wear a belt. Also there is less danger of losing it. That way I can just keep it there and forget about it. I can also put it in my purse and keep it close by in business or formal situations where it would be considered too "casual" to wear. I have changed the battery once (in a year). The battery costs about $5.00. It is well worth the money and I use it all the time. I have a goal of working up to 10,000 steps as often as possible and right now am doing that much about twice a week. Perhaps the only thing that I would do differently is to purchase the software to keep track of it. It also has a watch function so I use that a lot too.
One problem I have run into occasionally is that some events don't allow cell phones and they think this is a cell phone so I have to check it. Then not only can I not count my steps but I don't have a watch either. I hope in the future they can improve it so as not to run into this problem. However, this doesn't happen very often.
