Works Great July 8, 2010 D. Hartzell (WA United States) It gets teeth clean - much better than a manual toothbrush. Having the timed operation ensures that you brush long enough.
As good as the others July 7, 2010 Nicholas Basta After reading too many reviews on Amazon, I purchased a couple replacements for my old sonicare which died after many years: an Oral B Professional Care SmartSeries 4000 for $104 and a Sonicare Essence 5300 for $50-60. After 1 month of using the Oral B, I find sonication is simply superior to the oral B rotating brushes. I read all the reviews on Amazon -- the only negative re:Essence 5300 is the head design that allows water to get into the unit and get nasty --if not cleaned regularly. Well --if you unscrew the head regulary and rinse --no problem. I stayed away from the Sonicare Flex because of bad reviews of the head flying off. The head is never flying off of my 5300 --it screws on tightly. Save your money and buy the $50-60 Essence -- it is reliable --and don't forget to unscrew it and rinse once a week.
Great manual toothbrush July 7, 2010 Pete (from cyberspace) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The Sonicare Essence series e5300 is a great manual toothbrush, not sonic. I say this because when it completely dies anywhere from 2-6 months from date of purchase, you will be using it as a manual toothbrush. I use mine in the shower. It fits great in my hand and has some weight to it (from the non-replaceable dead battery) so it's not as cheap-feeling as a flimsy plastic toothbrush. The bristles are also nice and compact and reach fairly well. The only downside is the price. At around fifty bucks it's a little steep for a manual toothbrush, but hey, you get what you pay for right? The build quality is way better than a cheap six dollar plastic toothbrush and replacement heads are only about twenty-five bucks per two pack. Find comfort in knowing that when yours dies (and it will) it makes a great manual toothbrush. Also, you can cut the electrical cord off of the now useless charger and use it for a cool-looking toothbrush holder! The only reason I gave it one star is because it is supposed to be a sonic toothbrush, but oh well. It still kicks butt as a manual one!
Black mold may grow inside your toothbrush July 7, 2010 Elizabeth 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
A serious design flaw allows for water to leak into the compartment between the toothbrush and the base. I opened mine to replace the head and clean it out and it had so much black mold in it that I am astounded that this product has not been recalled. Black mold is very dangerous so definitely skip buying this toothbrush.
Call me Smiley July 7, 2010 Sandra J. Walzer (MESA, ARIZONA, US) This is my second Sonic toothbrush. I bought it, because my old one (at least 10 years old) is not holding it charge long enough for a 10 day trip. New one passed with flying colors. I'm 72 and my teeth are all my own, very white and I believe it is because I have been using the Sonic toothbrush. I bought my latest one through Amazon, because they had what I wanted at the best price.
